“Where I’m from, jail and death before age 18 are the two major options, but I wanted different,” said Christopher Snow, who because of ITWorks is now working as a Technology Services Technician for the large international consulting firm, Accenture.
There are nearly 100,000 young adults between the ages of 18-24 living in southeast Pennsylvania and north Delaware who are under employed, or unemployed and are making approximately $11,000 per year.
Tech Impact’s ITWorks is a free and demanding 16-week IT training program that is working to permanently change the lives of young adults. We depend on support from the commnity to keep this program going.
Of the students that are accepted into the ITWorks program:
100% of students work an internship upon graduation.
100% of students earn the Cisco IT Essential Professional Certification.
90% of graduates receive the Comp TIA A+ Professional Certification.
75% of graduates are working at a full-time position within 7 months of graduating.
25% of graduates are retained by the company they interned for.
The majority of ITWorks students are from heavily urbanized areas and are hungry to make a difference in their own lives, and in their communities, but often lack confidence and the necessary professional skills.
By equipping these motivated students with essential tools to succeed in a professional IT environment, young adults are on the fast tract to earning a better living for life.
But the program doesn’t stop there.
Upon graduating, students are placed in a 5-week internship to practice their skills, and potentially gain full-time employment.
Students, not only, earn a higher income, but are imbued them with greater confidence, leadership skills and are effectively bolstering the nonprofit community.
Through ITWorks, Tech Impact is truly supporting the entire community.
