The Westside School, or Las Vegas Grammar School Branch No. 1, is a registered historic place in Las Vegas. It is Las Vegas’s oldest remaining schoolhouse, built in 1923. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and remains an institution of learning in Las Vegas to this day.
After an 18 month, $12.5 million restoration project of the four-room school and annex building, Tech Impact signed a lease with the Las Vegas City Council to use the office space for ITWorks, a 16-week information technology training and certification program.
Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Barlow hopes that the revitalization of the Historic Westside School will inspire more rebuilding in the area, which has been plagued with urban decay for years. Tech Impact is supporting the redevelopment in the area with their lease at the school, as well a celebratory block party on Thursday, September 22nd.
