Kyle Velasco is excited about the future. That’s because he’s on track to graduate from the ITWorks program in Las Vegas in just a few weeks. After Kyle completed his military service, his sister (ITWorks 2019 alum) encouraged him to apply to the free, 16-week IT training program. Eager to further his existing technology skills and knowledge, he applied and was accepted as one of 15 students in the Las Vegas Spring 2020 class.
According to Kyle, the program delivered, “ITWorks helped me understand how to accomplish technical tasks that I wasn’t able to do before.” In addition to his technical training, Kyle has been able to perfect his interview skills though the program’s career development sessions. “I now know what to do before, during, and after an interview.”
Another high point of the training program, according to Kyle, is the opportunity to take the CompTAI A+ certification exam. The first 11 weeks in the classroom are spent learning about PC hardware, troubleshooting, IT networking, and security to prepare for the exam. With the CompTAI A+ certification, graduates are eligible for roles as help desk technicians, end user support techs, IT specialists, and field technicians to name a few.
Kyle is currently wrapping up his five-week internship with Goodwill, where some of his responsibilities include imaging computers via USB, dismantling computers, troubleshooting network problems, replacing hard drives, preparing machines for the team, and updating computers. After graduation, he plans to continue his internship with Goodwill and his technical training.
Congratulations to Kyle and the rest of the ITWorks Las Vegas Spring 2020 class!
