I was talking with one of my friends from ITWorks, and she asked me what it was like working with Axiom. I started talking and talking, and before I realized it, I had been going on for over five minutes. I figured instead of just talking about it, I'd write a little something to help other people out who are thinking of interning at Axiom. If you're interested in Cyber Security, you're going to have a great time. Why?
1 – The Culture
If you like working in a fast-paced, noisy, micromanaged environment, Axiom might not be a good fit for you. The one thing that shocked me about Axiom is how calm and quiet the office is during the day. Everyone is in their office, doing their work without being "checked up on" every so often. One thing that I don't like in a workplace environment is how some managers/supervisors constantly hover over you or "micromanage" your tasks. Not at Axiom. You're given a task to do or learn, and you do it without a feeling of being watched. I've had many questions and they were all answered in great detail by the people here. Overall it's a relaxed environment, but everyone is always ready to help when it's needed.
2 – There's Always Something New
Do you like monotonous tasks? Do you like routines and doing the same exact things every day? That's not what we do here! At Axiom, there's always something new. There hasn't been a single day that I've been doing the same thing twice. I have been given the task of building a PBX System from the ground up, which is fun for me because I love the challenge - it's like solving puzzles all day long.
3 – The Comradery
A company is only as good as the people it employs, which is part of what makes Axiom the best at what they do. Not only are they some of the smartest people I've worked with, but everyone there treats you like family, because that's how they see each other. It's very tight-knit, and everyone is comfortable with each other. There's no office drama or gossip. No watercooler conversations about what happened to Sally last week. It's a relaxed, no-clique environment.
4 – You're Always Learning
"One of the hardest aspects of Information Security is the speed at which hackers and attackers find and create new ways of causing harm, then as security professionals, having to stay one step ahead of them." -Shannon Wilkinson, President, Axiom Cyber Solutions
All of my internship was learning new things. From working with switches and firewalls to working with servers and building PBX systems, I learned a lot in a short amount of time; with the help of the people there. With new technology and new attacks coming out every day, you've got to be able to stay on top of it. If you're the type of person that gets excited about learning, then Axiom is the place for you.
5 – You'll Never Have to Work another Day in Your Life
Part of the Axiom Mission Statement says: "We believe in the saying 'if you find a job you love, you never work another day in your life'. We seek to cultivate a culture that attracts energetic, motivated, and creative individuals that share our passion for technology."
I think my favorite thing about Axiom is, even though the internship was five weeks long, it felt like only three days. Every day of it was fun, exciting, and full of information. It doesn't feel like work. Everyone in the office is friendly, professional, and they are some of the brightest in the industry.
Axiom Cyber Solutions has given me a unique environment in which there is no ceiling. I'm able to grow, learn, and conquer anything I raise my hand for. The amount of training, guidance, and knowledge that is shared and offered by the team here at Axiom is what ultimately makes me successful.
“It can be hard to find an opportunity to get your foot in the door in technology as many companies focus on degrees, experience, and certifications. The ITWorks program is a great way for interns not only to get one of those valuable certifications but also to get your foot in the door and meet the technology leaders in Las Vegas who are offering internships as well as positions afterwards.” – Shannon Wilkinson, President, Axiom Cyber Solutions

Why Axiom loves the ITWorks Program – Shannon Wilkinson, President of Axiom Cyber Solutions
It can be hard to find a job in technology as many companies focus on degrees, experience, and certifications. When I graduated from UNLV, several of my classmates struggled for years to find jobs in the technology field just because it can be very hard to make connections and find someone who is willing to take a chance on someone without years of experience on the job. Both of the founders of Axiom have been there, done that, and been lucky enough to find someone who was willing to take a chance on them and give them an opportunity to prove themselves in the field. Keeping our beginnings in mind, we want to offer those same chances to those newly entering the technology field.
The ITWorks program is a great program because it not only teaches technical skills but it also spends time teaching soft (professional) skills that will help its graduates immensely as they enter the workforce. The internship also helps the graduates get workplace experience, professional advice, and hopefully a foot in the door with the technology leaders in Las Vegas who are offering internships as well as positions afterwards.
