Fundraising. Some of us find it exhilirating and the reason we get out of bed in the morning. For others, it can be a necessary evil and even be the catalyst for leaving the nonprofit world altogether. Luckily, some big names are stepping up and coordinating initiatives like the Give Local America campaign to empower and lift up nonprofits of all sizes.
Give Local Greater Philly is a single-day, online-only event that aims to mobilize widespread individual giving on a local level. The event is open to nonprofits of all sizes that serve the Philadelphia area. The campaign does, however, target small, grassroots organizations in particular.
Launched in 2014, the Give Local America campaign serves as a way to connect donors with organizations in local communities who are providing essential services for their constituents. More than 100 communities now participate across America, including rural areas and major cities.
"We have wanted to bring Give Local America to the greater Philadelphia area since our inaugural year because of the tremendous impact a community-driven event can have across the region," says Lori Finch, vice president of community giving, Kimbia, an online fundraising technology for nonprofits. "United Way is an ideal partner to help drive the success of our first year, and we are excited to work with them to deliver one day of unprecedented community giving."
"We are thrilled to bring Give Local America to greater Philadelphia and southern New Jersey for the first time to support regional nonprofit organizations," says Jim Cawley, president and CEO, UWGPSNJ. "For nearly 100 years, United Way has brought together members of the community, business, nonprofit, and labor sectors to change lives and strengthen communities. Together, we can drive measurable, lasting Impact that none of us can achieve alone."
Give Local Greater Philly is part of a national day of giving known as Give Local America (GLA). In its first year, GLA raised $53.7 million for 7,000 nonprofits, a record-breaking program that benefitted communities across the nation. In 2015, through a partnership with more than 9,000 local nonprofits, Give Local America raised more than $68 million for local communities. In 2016, Give Local America hopes to engage even more nonprofit organizations and expand its fundraising efforts to reach $100 million in donations nationwide.
